Dr. Ramesh Balasubramaniam is a Professor of Cognitive & Information Sciences at the University of California, Merced. Much of the work from our lab has been in the area of rhythm processing and the ability that humans exhibit in synchronizing their actions to external auditory and visual events. In recent years, we have been focused on the role of the motor system in music perception and cognition. Our laboratory is engaged in fundamental work on Cognitive, Neurophysiological and Dynamical systems approaches to human action. We use the study of human motor control as a vehicle to understand the embodied nature of cognition.
